Prioritising information security during digital transformation

Security is on everyone’s mind these days – especially when it comes to organisations that use technology as a main component of their service offering. Growing pressure from consumer expectations is driving many companies to transform and provide customers and members with the fast, digitally-enabled processes they desire. However, along with this new technology, today’s consumers also want reassurance that their information is safe from hackers and other security threats. Digital transformation is also a time to take stock of the organisation’s existing platforms, information flows and storage, and evaluate ways to make them work better while toughening up protections around that vital data. There are many steps an organisation needs to take in order to improve information security and compliance. Successful change will need to combine the right mix of content services in such a way that improves security, while also evaluating and transforming the various processes that produce the information and the manner in which it is used throughout the organisation.

New Cyber Threat Index Shows Industries Are Under Attack in Uncertain Times

It has been more than a month since businesses around the world started to implement contingencies in response to the Coronavirus. The Cyber Threat Index Report by Imperva Research Labs tracks changes in traffic and attack trends across multiple industries and countries. This month’s edition looks at how COVID-19 is affecting all industries across the globe. Our researchers have found that while some sectors are experiencing a dip in the number of attacks, on the whole they remain consistent. As the chart below shows, certain sectors have experienced a significant increase in attacks over the past few months: attacks on gaming are up seven percent, food & beverages are up six percent, and financial services are up 3 percent.

Security by Sector: Medical IoT Gets Much Needed Dose of Cybersecurity

The subject of how information security impacts different industry sectors is an intriguing one. For example, how does the finance industry fare in terms of information security compared to the health sector, or the entertainment business? Are there some sectors that face greater cyber-threats and risks than others? Do some do a better job of keeping data secure, and if so, how and why? Information security risks and challenges in the healthcare industry are well documented and much maligned. There are several reasons why the healthcare sector is particularly vulnerable, but one of the chief causations is the high amount of connected yet insecure devices commonly used within hospitals, clinics and medical centers. For example, a report from researchers at healthcare cybersecurity company CyberMDX discovered that connected medical devices are twice as likely to be vulnerable to the BlueKeep exploit compared to other devices on hospital networks.
