Why China is probably behind the Canberra cyber-attack

Since Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a "sophisticated state actor" had tried to hack into Australia's major political parties' networks, the government has shut down any efforts to pin the blame on China. Mr Morrison dodged multiple questions from 3AW broadcaster Neil Mitchell about China's involvement in the hack this morning. "It's a government, but we're not in any position to attribute it to any nation," Mr Morrison said. The breach targeted the Liberal Party, the Labor Party and the National Party. It follows a similar attack on Parliament House. "We can say with some confidence that it's a state-based actor based on the types of infrastructure, the computer system they've used, where they've got them around the world and their tactics when inside systems," he told Today this morning.
