SecurityScorecard Research Reveals Cyber Vulnerabilities Pose a Threat to U.S. Maritime Security

SecurityScorecard | December 21, 2021

SecurityScorecard, the global leader in cybersecurity ratings, today released a new report on the U.S. shipping industry, "Proactive Security Measures for Global Maritime Shipping." The research found that high severity cyber vulnerabilities pose a big risk to U.S. maritime security, especially ahead of a busy holiday season. In December 2021, SecurityScorecard conducted an analysis of the cybersecurity health of 100 global shipping container companies compared to the Forbes Global 2000 companies, finding that: Overall, the cybersecurity risk posture of the shipping industry was better than the Forbes Global 2000, but the shipping industry did not perform higher in every risk group factor The largest risks to the sector include vulnerabilities in application security, irregular patching cadence, and network security Data breach percentages for shipping container companies increased from 2018 through 2021, indicating that the industry may be an increasingly attractive target for malicious cyber actors during the 2021 winter holiday season Shipping container companies initially did better than the Forbes Global 2000 until April 2020, when high-profile attacks sank the industry average. Since mid-2020, shipping container companies have continued to struggle to build resilience in their cybersecurity and have not yet returned to their pre-2020 breach scores. Global supply shortages and shipping disruptions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic pose a threat to U.S maritime security and threaten to disrupt the holiday gift-giving season. The maritime shipping network, which is responsible for 90% of the global trade, has gone from being a fast and cost-effective system to one plagued by delays, clogged shipping lanes, and exorbitant prices. "The shipping and maritime industry is already strained and taxed by the pandemic and resulting supply chain backlog,A potential cyber incident in the shipping industry could have catastrophic effects on people and businesses all across the world. This research is a key indicator that the industry should continue to keep a focus on cyber resilience through continuous monitoring." Aleksandr Yampolskiy, CEO and co-founder of SecurityScorecard SecurityScorecard continuously monitors millions of entities world-wide, and non-intrusively assesses their security posture across ten risk categories, including DNS health, IP reputation, web application security, network security, leaked information, hacker chatter, endpoint security, and patching cadence. This instantly delivers an easy-to-understand "A" through "F" security rating. About SecurityScorecard Funded by world-class investors including Silver Lake Partners, Sequoia Capital, GV, Riverwood Capital, and others, SecurityScorecard is the global leader in cybersecurity ratings with more than 12 million companies continuously rated. ReliaQuest Expands GreyMatter Platform with support for Risk Scenarios and MITRE ATT&CK v10

ReliaQuest | February 18, 2022

ReliaQuest, the leader in Open XDR-as-a-Service, today announced the expansion of its GreyMatter platform with support for MITRE ATT&CK v10 and Risk Scenarios that visually maps and measures a security program’s detection coverage in terms of threats and cyber risks. This new feature enables security leaders to close the communications gap with business leaders while demonstrating how well their security program mitigates cyber risks of most concern to the enterprise. Many leaders are challenged with measuring the progress of their security program and the impact of their security investments. According to a recent Ponemon Institute Research report, 64% of security leaders say a lack of standardized security metrics to measure progress is the primary obstacle to implementing an IT security risk management program. What’s more, 58% say that the lack of a well-defined security and risk management program is what makes their organization most vulnerable to cyberattacks. With the ability to map coverage against Risk Scenarios, GreyMatter enables security leaders to have a real-time view into how they are performing against individual threats or cyber risks they are most concerned about. They can pinpoint any gaps in coverage and make informed decisions on how best to proceed with investments and actions to close these gaps. Breakdowns by cyber risk categories and subcategories within them help security leaders focus on areas of concern at a granular level. “Too often, leaders rely on technical metrics that lack a holistic view of how security tools are operating together, leaving them at a loss when it comes to communicating cyber risks to the business, What’s more, translating the effectiveness of security tools in a language that leadership understands poses even more of a challenge. Now, with Risk Scenarios, security leaders have a more comprehensive view into how much coverage they have across cyber risk areas that concern them the most. This will help them make informed decisions on how best to approach these issues and communicate them effectively to leadership.” Brian Foster, Chief Product Officer at ReliaQuest Additionally, ReliaQuest announced an upgrade of its support for the latest MITRE ATT&CK framework version 10. By upgrading to support v10 of the framework, GreyMatter users are better able to visualize and measure detection coverage aligned to the latest techniques. In line with keeping with improving efficiencies for security operators, GreyMatter delivers enhancements to reduce tool hopping by automating collection of various contextual information, aiding in faster investigations and further streamlining the security operations workflow. About ReliaQuest ReliaQuest, the leader in Open XDR-as-a-Service, is the force multiplier for security operations teams. ReliaQuest GreyMatter is a cloud-native Open XDR platform that brings together telemetry from any security and business solution, whether on-premises, or in one or multiple clouds, to unify detection, investigation, response and resilience. ReliaQuest combines the power of technology and 24/7/365 security expertise to give organizations the visibility and coverage they require to make cybersecurity programs more effective.

OccamSec Unveils Revolutionary Cybersecurity Platform Set to Change the Industry

OccamSec | May 04, 2022

OccamSec, a leading cybersecurity provider, announced today the launch of their Incenter platform. Incenter identifies the security weaknesses an organization has in real-time, and helps teams develop insights and communicate business context from a security perspective. For today's organizations, the threat landscape is constantly evolving. Penetration testing and vulnerability scanning can help, but with new vulnerabilities and exploits found all the time, infrequent testing means risk data may be outdated. At the same time the industry is trending towards slicing the solution ever thinner, which means costs keep increasing. Incenter combines the functionality of a range of security services in one single solution. The platform provides, in real time, where an organization is vulnerable, and just as critically, what the impact will be if an attack occurs. Incenter utilizes a dual approach. It combines the best in technology with advanced automated testing, and the best in people with OccamSec's security team. Supported by vulnerability research and a threat intelligence team, the burden on clients having to buy multiple services is eliminated. Users have the ability to generate reports that compile real-time information with the touch of a button, rather than waiting for a timed report to be generated. Incenter also provides step-by-step guidance on how to mitigate any risks that are identified, with the tools an organization already has which means no hidden costs. Incenter combines the functionality of a range of security services in one single solution: Manual Penetration Testing Penetration Testing as a Service (PTaaS) Automated Security Validation (ASV) Vulnerability Scanning External Attack Surface Management (EASM) Crowd Source Penetration Testing Threat Intelligence This provides a single source of truth on the exposures an organization faces. Improving the effectiveness of any security team, regardless of size, and at the same time breaking organizations out of ever increasing cyber security expenditure. The platform's focus on the unique business context of each organization means that security teams no longer have to trudge through 1000's of scan findings or determine how relevant a penetration test finding is and how to fix it. At the same time from the dashboard, management can see a high level summary of their organization's exposure, the likelihood of a breach, and how much it's going to cost them. "Over the years we have seen what works, what doesn't and where the gaps are," says OccamSec founder Mark Stamford. "The biggest gap is organizations needing more and more tools and services to effectively secure themselves. The key to effective security is joining the dots, not having ever more dots scattered in ever more places. With Incenter we have combined the talents of our security team and their expert knowledge, with a technical solution that is unrivaled. The result is a win for our clients, regardless of size." About OccamSec OccamSec is a leading provider in the world of cybersecurity. Its clients rely on them to provide information security services that exceed current industry standards. OccamSec provides accurate, actionable information to reduce risk and enable better informed decisions. Its unique end-to-end solutions detect, identify, respond, and protect in order to maximize the effectiveness of security programs.
