Twitter Fixes Bug, Advises Users to Reset Passwords

Today’s topics include Twitter advising users to reset their passwords after a bug discovery, and Microsoft releasing a preview of the next major Windows 10 update. Twitter announced on May 3 that it discovered an issue in its system that exposed user passwords to potential risk but added that it is not aware of anyone either within Twitter or externally abusing or even accessing the passwords. "We recently found a bug that stored passwords unmasked in an internal log," Twitter wrote in an advisory. "We fixed the bug and have no indication of a breach or misuse by anyone. As a precaution, consider changing your password on all services where you've used this password." Somewhat ironically, Twitter reported the password issue on what had been declared World Password Day. GitHub made a similar announcement on May 1, alerting its users that it had discovered a bug that exposed users' passwords to the company's internal logging system. Microsoft has made available to members of the Windows Insider early-access program its newest Windows 10 update, code-named Redstone 5, which offers new ways to capture and work with screenshots. The Windows snipping tool, invoked by pressing the Windows, Shift and S keys, now causes a snipping toolbar to appear, which includes full-screen, rectangular and free-form snipping options. Users can alternatively launch the snipping tool by configuring the tail button in the Pen & Windows Ink settings screen, assigning the function to the Print Screen button, or using the quick-access button that appears in the Windows Action Center.
