Then, when the time is right, they steal sensitive data such as credit card numbers, trade secrets and personal information. They cause enormous damage—one estimate puts the annual cost of cybercrime at more than USD400 billion.

While the ZTMM is specifically tailored for federal agencies as required by EO 14028, all organizations should review and consider adoption of the approaches outlined in this document.
